Ranjani Mendis, wife of Nimal Mendis and mother of Paul-Marie Mendis and Director of Mediaeye Music Lanka (PVT) Limited passed away on the 18th of October 2010. She was the ‘all in’ administrator of the Company and an invaluable asset that Mediaeye Music sadly misses and will do so in the years to come. From an executive background, primarily, assistant Director of Publicity in the Tourist Board of Sri Lanka at one time, she was a ’live wire’ in the many aspects that was demanded from Mediaeye Music from its inception and earlier, to three days before she passed on.

Although she was not a musician herself she was involved in the arts from an early age. She was a ‘make up’ artist for Professor Sarathchandra’s “Maname”, was fluent in English, French and Sinhala and worked on all the documentaries Mediaeye produced. She was a closeted artist and poet but had some of them published in England and France. Most of her work are written down in note books and bits of paper. Mediaeye Music is discovering more of this now and hopes to bring out a book of her poems in the future. On this page are two of her poems and new ones will be featured as time passes by. Her image as a poet was in the background as she herself let it go, with all her effort geared towards achieving success of Nimal Mendis’s songs.

Remembrance - Ranjani Mendis

TO WALK AND WALK
I searched and searched and found you not Good Earth
Your pathways hustled by a silent mob
Careless walk man woman and child
So unaware........
Rushing wheels thoughtless minds
Death not far behind.
Oh where are you ?
You simple earth
You sky so calm
You bird so sweet
You lift not hand
you speak no tongue
you simply wait
I walk and walk and walk and walk..........
